We have learned that perpetrators of domestic violence often blame their victim for the violence inflicted against them. Men Creating Peace helps participants take responsibility for their abusive behaviors, through accountability and advocacy. We teach men to negotiate boundaries and agreements, in order for them to learn how to create healthier relationships. In our model, program participants actively support one another to stop them from manipulating, insulting, raging, threatening, and assaulting as a way to get their needs met.
MCP’s program curriculum is primarily based on the Manalive™ curriculum, which set the standard for all batterer intervention programs in California [when it was used as the model for Assembly Bill 226, which was passed by the State Senate on July 8, 1993.] The Manalive™ curriculum is also facilitated in community programs in San Francisco, Marin, Sacramento, and Placer, including in San Francisco County Jail, Sacramento County Jail, and San Quentin State Prison. Manalive™ has worked with thousands of men over the last 40 years to successfully create peace in their lives.
